An intoxicated man who attempted to steal a pickup truck in Worthville was caught after a brief foot pursuit.
Randall Raines, 19, Owenton, attempted to steal a pickup truck owned by Mike Howell on Railroad Street in Worthville on April 3, 2012. Carroll County Sheriff Jamie Kinman responded to the call. Before Kinman arrived, Mr. Howell attempted to stop Raines but could not.
Kinman said that when he arrived Raines was in a field by the Worthville City Park. A foot pursuit ensued for about two blocks. He was apprehended. Kinman said Raines was intoxicated and told Kinman he was partying in Worthville and decided to steal a truck to get home to Owenton.
In the process of attempting to steal the truck, Raines knocked the truck in gear and it rolled backward. The truck sandwiched a motorcycle between it and another truck, all of which were owned by Howell. The damage is expected to be approximately $1,000.
Raines was charged with alcohol intoxication, criminal mischief first degree and theft by unlawful taking over $500 (auto) and taken to the Carroll County Detention Center. Kinman was assisted by Kentucky State Police.
